Betting on the Boston College Eagles (9-18, 2-12 ACC)
Despite a big night from Ky Bowman this past Tuesday (game-high 29 points and five threes), the Eagles were dealt with their 10th straight loss. They went to the break with a 10-point lead, but Notre Dame was able to rally in the second half (including a 21-3 run in a five-minute span), and eventually won, 84-76.
Though in a losing effort, the freshman’s production was much-needed, with number one scorer Jerome Robinson (19 PPG) only shooting 37.7 percent in their last four games. Bowman leads everyone in the team rotation in field goal shooting (50 percent) and threes (1.9 per game), while also being second in scoring (14.1 PPG).
Robinson will obviously have to be better moving forward, and Bowman must continue being aggressive in trying to be a real, solid secondary option. The team’s stagnant offense (201st in scoring, 186th in efficiency) relies on them a lot, as they are the only guys on the roster to average double-digit PPG.
BC’s defense isn’t scaring anyone as well (270th in points allowed, 134th in efficiency). In their current losing streak, the Eagles are allowing opponents to score 80.7 PPG on 49.1-percent shooting.
The Eagles are 0-7 on the road this season (4-3 ATS).
Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (21-6, 9-5 ACC)
The Seminoles continued their up-and-down stretch over the weekend. They lost to the struggling Pittsburgh Panthers, 80-66, and had no answers for Sheldon Jeter, who had a career-high 29 points and four treys. With the defeat, the Noles are now just 5-5 (3-7 ATS) after winning 16 of their first 17 games.
Don’t let that discourage you, though. The ‘Noles will be playing at their home floor in Tallahassee tomorrow, where they are averaging 86.8 PPG on 51.4-percent shooting, and a perfect 16-0 this season (12-4 ATS).
The team’s leading scorer, Dwayne Bacon (16.8 PPG), was held scoreless in their recent outing, so expect him to be focused on bouncing back. He should be able to redeem himself, as he’ll be facing one of the nation’s worst defenses. His number one partner in crime, freshman Jonathan Isaac (12.7 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 1.5 BPG), should have no problems joining in the fun. Bacon and Isaac are guiding the team to have a top 25-ranked offense and defense.
Through 14 conference games, the Seminoles’ D is third in the ACC in allowed field goal shooting (44 percent) and first in opponent turnovers per game (14.2).
Writer’s Prediction
FSU (-18) wins, 81-73, and doesn’t cover the spread.
