Betting on the Boston Red Sox (31-20)
The hard-hitting Red Sox will look to pummel more Baltimore pitching later tonight. Boston has been the best offensive team in the majors thus far, ranking first in runs (302), RBI (290), and batting average (.295).Boston’s polished offense was on full display on Monday, when the Red Sox began their four-game series against the O’s with a 7-2 victory. And with Baltimore sending Kevin Gausman to the mound, it seems that the Red Sox are on the verge of another prolific day at the plate.
The current Red Sox lineup slashes a nice .291/.351/.465 against the Baltimore’s right-hander. Among them is Xander Bogaerts, who is 5-for-14 (.357) lifetime against Gausman. Speaking of Bogaerts, the shortstop extended his hit streak to 23 games after going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in Monday’s series opener.
Meanwhile, on the mound for Boston will be Eduardo Rodriguez. This is going to be Rodriguez’s first start this season after spending time on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. Rodriguez went 10-6 with a 3.85 ERA in 21 starts last year.
The Red Sox are 4-1 in Rodriguez’s last five starts overall.
Betting on the Baltimore Orioles (28-21)
Kevin Gausman’s search for his first win of the season continues, as he gets the ball for Game 2 of the series against Boston. So far this year, Gausman is sporting a 0-2 with a 3.24 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in seven starts on the season.
In his last start, Gausman pitched for only five innings, getting tagged with four earned runs on five hits in a 4-2 road loss to Houston. Three of those hits were home runs as he also recorded seven punchouts. He’ll have to place his pitches in much better places against a scary lineup in the Red Sox.
Behind Gausman is Baltimore’s offense that is struggling to produce runs. The O’s are averaging just 3.4 runs over their last eight contests.
Looking to put a dent on Rodriguez’s ego is the pair of Manny Machado and Hyun Soo Kim. Machado is batting .346 with four doubles and a homer in the last seven games, while Kim is sitting on a .333 BA over his last six games.
Baltimore is 6-4 in Gausman’s last 10 home starts.
Writer’s Prediction
