Plant is viewed as the much better fighter than Lee, thus his odds of -1500 to win in this fight. Plant won the IBF super middleweight title by taking it away from Jose Uzcategui via a unanimous decision victory in Los Angeles back in January. Lee is a crafty fighter, who knows his way in the ring and lands punches by using his impressive footwork and fast hands, which is also why he’s called “Sweethands”. Plant, who is from Nashville, Tennessee, doesn’t boast of intimidating punching power, but he makes up for that with his durability and technical knowledge of the sport. If he were a baseball player, he’d be the light-hitting shortstop who sprays hits all over the field instead of a home-rum mashing first baseman. In his win over Uzcategui, Plant showed that he’s ready to fight better quality opponents. Prior to that, there were plenty of doubts whether Plant can handle tougher and more experienced men inside the right. He’s proven that he can, and now, he’s all set to do it again.

Betting on Mike Lee (+800)

Total fights: 21

Wins: 21

Wins by KO: 11

Losses: 0

Draws: 0

A big underdog in this fight, Lee will have to dig deep in his arsenal in order to defeat Plant. Lee used to be an elite prospect by Top Rank but has fallen off the radar, partly in part to his seeming insistence to engage in fights wherein he’s mostly expected to emerge victorious from. Still, it takes talent and skill to go through 18 fights without incurring a loss. In his last fight, Lee fought in a NABO light heavyweight title fight and defeated Jose Hernandez via unanimous decision in Rosemont in June of 2016. Lee mostly fought in the light heavyweight division, and the lightest he’s been for a fight was 173 pounds, so locking horns with a dangerous opponent in Plant on a 168-pound limit is something that’s new and hopefully for Lee, not detrimental to the positive areas he does inside the ring. It’s also worth noting that Lee went to Notre Dame and finished his studies with a Finance degree. His degree will not matter in his fight against Plant, but Lee is clearly a smart guy, whose intelligence has translated well into his boxing career.

Writer’s Prediction

Plant scores a unanimous victory over Lee.
