Betting on the Calgary Stampeders (3-2)

The Stampeders took advantage of a light opponent and made a return in the win column last week. After suffering a 30-23 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on the road in Week 5, the Stampeders blasted the still-winless Toronto Argonauts at home, 26-16. Quarterback Nick Arbuckle did not have the shiniest of performance, but did just enough to lead his team into good scoring positions. He finished the game with 191 passing yards on 20-of-30 completions with a pair of touchdowns along with a couple of interceptions. Kicker Rene Paredes made both his field-goal attempts, which were crucial in the victory. Arbuckle might have a better night slinging the ball and finding his targets against Ottawa, which has an unimposing defense, one that ranks just eighth in the CFL with 33.0 points allowed per contest and a league-fewest total of two interceptions.

The under is 5-0 in the Stampeders’ last five road games.

Betting on the Ottawa Redblacks (2-3)

Ottawa’s misery continues. After opening the season with two consecutive victories, the Redblacks are now in a three-game losing streak, though, two of those came at the hands of the only remaining undefeated team in the league in the form of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. That includes Ottawa’s seriously embarrassing 31-1 loss to Winnipeg in Week 6 on the road. Ottawa’s offense, particularly it’s air attack, was grounded, as the Blue Bombers allowed just 102 passing yards and zero touchdowns while coming away with a pair of interceptions. Running back John Crockett tried to save Ottawa’s offense some face by rushing for 88 yards on 15 carries, but he wasn’t able to find the end zone. Crockett may have to do some more work against Calgary on the ground, as the Stampeders have a dangerous secondary, which anchors a defense that has league-leading 12 interceptions. Ottawa is fifth in the CFL with 95.0 rushing yards per game.

The over is 3-1 in Ottawa’s last four home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Calgary wins, 28-20.
