Betting on the Chicago White Sox (20-22)
The White Sox have cobbled up three-straight wins in a series sweep of the Seattle Mariners on the road. The team thoroughly dominated the Mariners in that set, outscoring Seattle, 26-3.
With the White Sox’s offense clicking on all cylinders, Miguel Gonzalez steps on the mound later tonight hoping to get the same robust run support, as he tries to end a four-start winless drought, when he takes on the Diamondbacks in a series opener.
Gonzalez is 0-4 with a 6.94 ERA over his past four starts, including his debacle in a 12-8 road loss to the Angels on May 17 in which he allowed five earned runs on six hits in 5.2 innings of action.
Shortstop Tim Anderson is currently killing it at the plate, powering the White Sox’s offense with a 12-for-26 (.462) batting line with three homers in his last six games. Outfielder Avisail Garcia, meanwhile, is 11-for-29 with a couple of home runs in his past seven.
Betting on the Arizona Diamondbacks (26-19)
Arizona was cooled off a bit by a 5-1 loss to San Diego Sunday to end a five-game win streak. The D’backs will try to get back in the win column by sending former Cy Young Award winner, Zack Greinke , to the mound.
Greinke upped his record to 5-2 this season after taming the Mets in a 5-4 win at home on May 16, allowing four earned runs on five hits in 6.2 innings. In three starts this May, Greinke is 3-0 with a 2.91 ERA and an opponents’ batting average of .158. He is also undefeated so far this year at home, going 4-0 with a 2.82 in six starts at Chase Field.
Backing Greinke is Arizona’s offense that is fourth in the National League in runs and second in batting average. Chris Owings is having an awesome month, as he is hitting .359/.379/.484 this May. Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb are providing much of the power at the plate with six homers apiece this May.
Writer’s Prediction
