Betting on the Cleveland Browns (2-2)
Instead of a disheartening 1-3 SU start to the season, the Browns are now 2-2 SU after defying the odds and beating the Baltimore Ravens on the road last week, 40-25. The offense that was much-maligned in the weeks prior because of the Browns’ inability to perform according to their preseason hype finally broke out and piled up 530 total yards while allowing just 395 to the Ravens. Nick Chubb continues to have a fantastic season, as he rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns against Baltimore, and even though the 49ers appear to have a stout defense, it will be spread out by the tandem of Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham enough for Chubb to find holes to burst through in the ground attack. Landry had 167 receiving yards on eight catches while Ricky Seals-Jones had 82 receiving yards and a touchdown on three receptions.
The Browns have covered the spread in each of their last four road games. The under is also 3-2 in their last five away from home.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (3-0)
The 49ers entered a Week 4 bye undefeated, after wins against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Pittsburgh Steelers in that order. The Niners could be considered lucky for keeping that long of a winning streak, as they turned the ball over five times against the Steelers in Week 3. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw a couple of interceptions and lost a fumble, while Raheem Mostert and Richie James Jr. each had a fumble. San Francisco bucked those errors and found a way to win with the help of a robust ground attack that churned out 168 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Still, the 49ers need to limit their turnovers. They are 23rd in the league in turnover margin per game (-0.3) and are averaging the most number of turnovers per contest (2.7). San Francisco’s defense is dependable, though, allowing just 18.0 points and 123.3 total yards per game, eighth and third overall in the league, respectively.
The 49ers are 2-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last four home games, while the under is 3-1 in those contests. They are also 2-1 ATS in their last three games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Browns win, 24-20.
