Betting on the Connecticut Huskies (odds)
Record: 21-7 Overall/12-5 Conference
The Huskies are red-hot right now. Dan Hurley’s UConn squad is on a five-game win streak after taking down the hapless Georgetown Hoyas on the road last Sunday, 86-77. This is the same Huskies unit that also defeated the Villanova Wildcats prior to the Georgetown game. Connecticut’s excellence on both ends of the floor is making heads in the Big East hurt. The Huskies are second in the conference with 108.6 points per 100 possessions and fifth with 100.6 points allowed per 100 possessions. Their offensive rebounding is the best in the conference as well as their rim protection. With almost everything clicking for Connecticut at the moment, the Huskies are looking very prime to avenge their 59-55 home loss to Creighton back on Feb. 1. Even though they lost in that game, the Huskies made their mark on defense, as they forced the Bluejays to commit 13 turnovers and had six blocks to just two by Creighton.
The Over is 3-1 in Connecticut’s last four games away from home.
Betting on the Creighton Bluejays (odds)
Record: 19-9 Overall/11-6 Conference
Creighton has also gotten hot of late, notwithstanding the fact that the Bluejays lost in their most recent game. The Bluejays, who absorbed a 72-51 road loss to Big East regular-season champions Providence Friars last Saturday, are 6-1 straight up in their last seven games overall. Over the stretch, they have defeated the likes of the Marquette Golden Eagles and the St John’s Red Storm. Creighton shot debilitatingly bad in the Providence game, making only 30.5 percent of its shots from the field, including a 5/36 line from behind the arc. It’s going to be Creighton’s defense that will keep this team afloat. The Bluejays own the best defense in the Big East. They are allowing just 97.1 points per 100 possessions in conference play and are allowing just 99.9 points per game overall this season, thus far.
The Under is 6-3-1 in Creighton’s last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Connecticut wins, 69-67.
