Betting on the Dallas Stars (36-15-5)

Not even Alex Ovechkin and company could stop the surging Dallas Stars, who beat Washington on Saturday, 4-2. With that victory, Dallas stretched its win streak to three games and will be looking to extend it further later tonight in Nashville.

Dallas’ offense was once again on point with Tyler Seguin scoring a pair of goals and the Stars outshooting the Caps by a wide margin of 35-23. Scoring lots of goals isn’t unusual for this loaded Dallas squad, as the team is second in the league with 3.2 goals per game. The Stars have been even better of late, averaging 3.3 goals over their last five games, a stretch that saw them score at least four goals in four contests.

Seguin, who leads the Stars with 30 goals, will again be at the forefront of Dallas’ attack later tonight. He struck twice in an earlier meeting with Nashville this season, a 5-1 win on December 31.

After going 0-for-6 on the power play in a 5-1 loss to Chicago on February 6, the Stars have gone 4-for-9 on the man advantage in the three games since. The Stars are fifth in the NHL with a 22.1 percent power play conversion rate, so it’ll be interesting to see what they could do against Nashville’s penalty kill that is ranked just 25th overall.

Dallas is 4-0 in its last four road games.

Betting on the Nashville Predators (26-21-9)

Dallas Stars vs Nashville Predators Preview and Predictions

A change of goalie sure did help Nashville avoid a three-game skid, as the Preds rode the back of second-string netminder Carter Hutton in a 5-0 win over Florida on Saturday.

Hutton stopped all of the Panthers’ 22 shots on goal to get the game’s first star honors and also improved his record to 5-2-1 to go along with a 2.36 GAA and .916 SV%. With Pekka Rinne not doing great of late, allowing eight goals in his last two starts, the Predators might try to go for Hutton again later tonight. On the season, Nashville is 18th in the league in defense with 2.7 goals allowed per game.

Hopefully, Hutton will be able to hold his own against Dallas’ devastating offense. But regardless of how he performs, the Preds need to give their goalie a comfortable cushion to ease some pressure off him.

Former Star James Neal is Nashville’s best bet to score tonight, as the forward leads the team with 21 goals. However, Calle Jarnkrok and Shea Weber are also playing well over the past few contests that it won’t be a surprise if either of the two would find the back of the net tonight. Jarnkrok has four goals in his last five games, including a pair in the win over Florida. Weber, meanwhile, has three goals over the same stretch.

Nashville’s usually inept power play also sprung to life in the Florida game, wherein the Preds went 2-for-3 on the man advantage. They were just 2-for-18 in the five previous contests.

Nashville is 7-3 in its last 10 home games against the Stars.

Writer’s Prediction

Nashville’s defensemen step up, as the Preds win, 3-2.
