Betting on the Denver Nuggets (54-28 Regular Season)
For the first time, the Nuggets have grabbed the series lead against San Antonio. After tying the series at 2-2 with a 117-103 road win in Game 4, the Nuggets destroyed the Spurs anew in Game 5, 108-90. Guard Jamal Murray shined again for Denver, as he scored 23 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the field with seven assists, four rebounds, and four 3-pointers. Nikola Jokic had a relatively pedestrian outing on offense, with just 16 points, but he had 11 rebounds, and didn’t seem to score many points, especially with Denver’s bench stepping up big time. Monte Morris, Malik Beasley, and Will Barton combined for 28 of the Nuggets’ 29 bench points. Denver’s bench is outscoring San Antonio’s relievers so far in the series by an average of 34.0 points to just 27.0 by San Antonio’s second unit.
Denver, which is averaging 12.0 3-pointers made per game in the playoffs, is 2-2 against the spread (ATS) in its last four road games.
Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (48-24 Regular Season)
He’s not exactly someone like Tony Parker, but Derrick White seems to be a huge indicator of how much success San Antonio will have in the series against the Nuggets on a per-game basis. White’s play has been down over the last two games, in which he only scored a total of 20 points. That was after he averaged 23.0 points in the first three games of the series. But the Spurs shouldn’t also be expecting positive results if they continue to get the same kind of performance out of DeMar DeRozan as the one the swingman had in Game 5. In that game, DeRozan had 17 points on an inefficient 6-for-15 shooting from the field. The Spurs also need to knock down more 3-pointers. The Nuggets are killing San Antonio from downtown, while the Spurs are ranked last among all playoff teams with just 6.2 3-pointers per game on only 33.7 percent clip.
