Where’s Jamal Murray? After going off with 36 points in Game 1, Murray has ghosted the Nuggets, scoring just 14 in Game 2 and just 12 in their 124-87 loss to the Jazz in Game 3. Nikjola Jokic also played below expectations — way below — as he scored just 15 points and was a minus-21 in the game. As a team, the Nuggets’ defense was bad. Michael Porter Jr. started in Game 3 but had to be replaced in the second half due to Utah repeatedly capitalizing on his matchup. As a team, the Nuggets allowed Utah to shoot above 50 percent from the field on Friday. The Nuggets are hoping that Gary Harris can return in time for Game 4 to help their aching defense. Harris, the Nuggets’ best ball-stopper, has yet to play in the Bubble due to a right hip injury. His status remains up in the air.
The over is 9-1 in the Nuggets’ last 10 games.
Betting on the Utah Jazz (-3)
Regular Season Record: 44-28
Mike Conley made up for his two-game absence with a scintillating performance in Game 3. The veteran guard torched the Nuggets for 27 points, including seven 3-pointers, four assists, and a steal — all in just 25 minutes. Rudy Gobert, meanwhile, was a monster on offense and defense. The Stifle Tower scored 24 points on 11-for-15 shooting from the field to go with 15 rebounds while doing a great job of bottling up Jokic. The Jazz’s offense is firing on all cylinders right now, as it looks like they now have the number of Denver’s defense, as evidenced by the fact that Utah has shot better than 51 percent from the field in each of their last two games. They have also hit 38 3-pointers on 46.9 percent accuracy. With Conley now back, Denver’s defense is further getting exposed by the Jazz, who are making 50 percent of their shots from the floor, thus far in the series.
The Jazz are 3-1 against the spread in their last four games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Nuggets win, 117-115.
