Betting on the Detroit Lions (3-2)
The Detroit Lions are ready to hit the road once again as they take on the New Orleans Saints in hopes of rebounding from losing two of their last three games. They have a good chance of rebounding against the New Orleans Saints as they open up as four point underdogs, but have an offense that is deadly.
On the season, the offense is ranked 10th in scoring with 24.6 points per game with quarterback Matthew Stafford leading the charge on offense with 1,116 passing yards with nine touchdowns and only one interception. With a strong passing game, the running game has been hidden for most of the season with running back Ameer Abdullah totaling 288 rushing yards on the season.
The strong Detroit defense also matches the offense as they are allowing only 19.4 points per game which is good for 10th in the NFL. In order for Detroit to pull off the upset, they must tame the beast of Drew Brees.
Betting on the New Orleans Saints (2-2)
The New Orleans Saints are no stranger to a powerful offense as quarterback Drew Brees has found his groove at the right timing. New Orleans were almost about to be written off for the season with double digit losses to the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots, but the veteran Brees has rounded this team for the better good.
With riding a two game winning streak, the Saints offense and defense have improved drastically since the start of the season. First, the offense along with Brees have put on an offensive showcase. The veteran quarterback has thrown for five touchdowns and zero interceptions in that span.
On the defense, New Orleans allowed 65 total points in the first two games, but now have dialed up the perfect blitz package that have offensive lines confused. The Saints have only allowed 13 points in the past two games with one of them being a shutout win against the Miami Dolphins.
Writer’s Prediction
The Lions have the edge on the defensive end but expect Brees to play well and dominant in the dome. Pick: Saints (-4.5)
