The Chicago White Sox are just 3-7 this month and will be coming into tonight’s game against the Detroit Tigers looking to snap a two-game skid. The White Sox plan to do just that by sending Miguel Gonzalez to the mound. He’ll be in a duel with the Tigers’ Jordan Zimmermann, who is looking to bounce back following an ugly loss.

Betting on the Detroit Tigers
After getting rocked hard in a 7-2 loss to Toronto on June 8, Jordan Zimmerman (8-3, 3.30 ERA) will look to pick up the pieces when he gets on the mound later tonight against the White Sox.Zimmermann yielded seven earned runs on eight hits against the powerful bats of the Blue Jays. It was a sudden turn for Zimmerman, who was having a great time in his previous two starts in which he went 2-0 with four earned runs across 11.1 total innings.
Zimmerman is also hoping that the Tigers continue to supply him with a healthy run support. The right-hander has been getting 5.32 runs as cushion per nine innings pitched thus far on the season.
By the looks of the current Tigers lineup’s career numbers against White Sox starter Miguel Gonzalez, it seems that Zimmerman won’t have to worry about run support. The Tigers have a collective career batting average of .311 against Gonzalez. Jose Iglesias, in particular, is 5-for-11 (.455) lifetime opposite Gonzalez, while Anthony Gose is 6-for-18 (.333) with a homer and three RBI in the same matchup.
Detroit is 3-1 in Zimmerman’s last four road starts.
Zimmerman is 2-0 with a 1.83 ERA in three career starts against the White Sox.
Betting on the Chicago White Sox
It took some time but Miguel Gonzalez (1-1, 3.57 ERA) finally picked up his first win of the season during a 3-1 victory over Washington last Thursday. He’ll be gunning for his first back-to-back wins against Detroit at home this Monday night.
Gonzalez, who is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in two starts at U.S. Cellular Field this year, has been some sort of erratic. While he can toss gems akin to his performance against the Nationals, wherein he allowed just one run (a home run) on three hits without walking a batter across six innings, Gonzalez’s has at times struggled with control. He had two starts in which he each issued five free passes.
In any case, Chicago need its offense to start producing. The White Sox managed just two runs total in their last two games, which includes a 3-1 loss to Kansas City on Sunday. The White Sox have just 32 runs this month while batting a league-worst .215.
Jose Abreu, however, has been a bright spot in the White Sox’s lineup, as the first baseman has hit .391 (9-for-23) with two doubles, a homer, and four RBI over the last six games.
The White Sox are 4-3 in Gonzalez’s last seven starts.
Writer’s Prediction
