Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (odds)
Record: 13-11 Overall / 9-9 Conference
Duke is on a groove right now. The Blue Devils have collected two wins to start the ACC tournament, with victories over the Boston College Eagles (86-51) in the first round and against the Louisville Cardinals (70-56) in the second round. It only gets tougher from here for Duke, but at least the Blue Devils are riding some serious momentum heading into the matchup against the erstwhile stagnant Seminoles, who might come into Thursday’s game a bit rusty, as this will be their first outing since the conclusion of the regular season. Mark Williams will be the top man to watch for Duke after he put up a monster performance in the Louisville game, scoring 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field while pulling down 19 rebounds. Duke will also be relying on its offense that was second in the ACC back in the regular season with 110.1 points per 100 possessions.
Duke is 4-1 against the spread in its last five games after covering the spread in its previous game.
Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (odds)
Record: 15-5 Overall / 11-4 Conference
Florida State looked shaky towards the end of the ACC regular season, having lost two of its last three games. The last one was an 83-73 setback at the hands of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in South Bend back on Mar. 6, though a few days of rest could just be what the doctor ordered for Notre Dame. The No. 2 seed in the ACC tournament, Florida State is expecting its offense to flourish against Duke, which finished the regular season just 12th in the ACC with 73.4 points allowed per game. On the flip side, Florida State’s offense isn’t just the best in the conference(80.5 PPG), but it’s also one of the most prolific in the nation (30th, with 79.6 PPG). The Seminoles’ depth is going to be a huge advantage for the team. They are 21st nationally in bench minutes percentage, plus they are the tallest with an average height of 79.6 inches.
Florida State is 8-3 against the spread in games after it failed to beat the spread.
Writer’s Prediction
Florida State wins, 78-72.
