Betting on the Eastern Washington Eagles (0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference)

The Eagles are an FCS team, but their play demands respect — even from FBS programs. The Eagles are coming off an impressive season, finishing second overall after losing to champions North Dakota Bisons. There will be some issues early in the season due to the departure of some starters, but the offense should still be running smoothly with returning quarterback Eric Barriere, who compiled 2,450 passing yards, 24 touchdowns to go with eight rushing scores a season ago. The Eagles’ offense could be catching Washington’s stop unit at a great time, as the Huskies are breaking in new pieces on their defense and they could take some time to get familiar with the atmosphere of college football. Barriere’s ability to make plays through the air and on the ground could be a problem for Washington, which will have to plan well for arguably the best player in the FCS this year.

Betting on the Washington Huskies (0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference)

It’s always a challenge whenever a program has to break in too many new faces, which is the same situation the Huskies are in right now. Washington is set to field a total of 13 new starters, but the Huskies are confident in the overall makeup of their squad. For one, the Huskies will not have to think much about their receiving corps, which fortunately comes with plenty of experience. Upper classmen Aaron Fuller, Andre Baccellia, and Ty Jones are all returning, guaranteeing Washington’s attack of the services of all of its top three receivers in 2018. Fuller led the team last season with 874 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Jones paced the Huskies with six touchdowns to go with 491 receiving yards. Charged with orchestrating this offense on the field is quarterback Jacob Eason, who inherits the role of the prolific Jake Browning. Eason has NFL size (6-6, 230 pounds), which should make it harder for the Eagles’ pass rush to take down.

The Huskies are 3-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last three games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Huskies win, 37-20.
