Florida Gulf Coast Eagles – March Madness Team Predictions, Odds and Preview 2016

East No. 16 Florida Gulf Coast (Overall: 25-8, Conf: 13-5)

Team Strengths:

They’re not Dunk City anymore, but the FGCU Eagles can still fly high in the tourney on the strength of their outstanding three-point defense and their ability to control the glass. They finished 10th in the country in three-point defense (30 percent) and were in the top 20 in rebounding. They also have a legit go-to guy with junior Marc Eddy Norelia, who can get buckets inside.

Team Weaknesses:

While the Eagles defend the three well, their offense doesn’t utilize it as much. They were near the bottom in the country in threes made and attempted. That doesn’t bode well for their chances to claw back a big deficit. They also don’t inspire much confidence in the end of close games, as they’re one of the very worst free-throw shooting teams in the nation.

Team Stats:

Category Stat NCAA Rank
Points Per Game 77.0 84th
Rebounds Per Game 40.2 22nd
Blocks Per Game 4.0 102nd
3-Point Percentage 35.7% 131st
Free Throw Percentage 64.7% 328th

Starting Lineup:

Position Name PPG
F Marc Eddy Norelia 17.2
F Demetris Morant 5.7
G Julian DeBose 8.6
G Zach Johnson 11.2
G Christian Terrell 12.6

Writer’s Prediction

FGCU makes it to the field of 64, but that’s as far is it goes.
