Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (-7)
Florida State’s playoff hopes were dealt a major blow on Saturday when it suffered a humiliating 63-20 defeat to Louisville at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. The Seminoles simply had no answer for Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson who accounted for five total touchdowns. It was a disappointing result for Florida State, who had won three of its previous four games against Louisville. The Cards’ 63-point outburst was the most ever allowed by the Seminoles in a single game.
They will look to get their season back on track when they take on the South Florida Bulls this coming Saturday. For the Seminoles to record the much-needed win, they will need to do a much better job of stopping their opponents’ third downs. Florida State had a hard time getting off the field on defense on Saturday, allowing Louisville to convert five of its 10 third downs. The Seminoles, on the other hand, struggled mightily with their third-down offense, going just 2-of-13 in that department.
It’s also paramount for the Seminoles that they establish their aerial game against the Bulls. Florida State recorded just 113 passing yards in the loss to Louisville. That’s way below their 267.0 YPG average this season. The onus then is on Deondre Francois to step up his play this coming Saturday. He completed just 7-of-18 passes for 101 yards and an interception in the loss to the Cardinals.
Florida State is 1-9 SU and 5-5 ATS in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the South Florida Bulls (+7)
The South Florida Bulls will head to their ACC showdown with Florida State with momentum on their side after trouncing the Syracuse Orange, 45-20, on Saturday. It was another impressive victory for the Bulls, who improved their season-record to 3-0. They have won their first three games by an average of 30.6 points.
Key to South Florida’s strong start has been their red-hot offense. The Bulls are averaging a whopping 49.7 points per game this season, seventh in the entire FBS. Providing the impetus for South Florida’s win on Saturday was Rodney Adams. He scored three touchdowns in the come-from-behind victory against Syracuse.
Things are bound to get tougher for the unbeaten Bulls, though, as standing in their way in the next game are the Florida State Seminoles. The Bulls are winless in their last two meetings with the Seminoles. They have lost by an average of 16,5 points in those two games. For the Bulls to preserve their unbeaten record against the Seminoles, they will need to quickly establish their running game this coming Saturday. South Florida rushed for 234 yards in the win against Syracuse. Marlon Mack spearheaded the Bulls’ ground attack, finishing with 115 yards and two scores on nine carries. The Bulls, who have won 10 of their last 12 outings, gained at least 200 yards on the ground for the eighth-straight contest.
South Florida is 7-3 SU and 7-2-1 ATS in its last 10 home games.
