Betting on the Golden State Warriors (42-7)
Another day passed and another Warriors opponent got blown out. Against the visiting Charlotte Hornets Wednesday night, the Dubs fired on all cylinders right from the tip, scoring 41 points in the first quarter. Through that barrage, they easily won the game, 126-111. It’s their second victory over “Buzz City” in the last week.
Stephen Curry, as usual, was insane from downtown, as he splashed 11 of his 15 attempts from three, en route to finishing with a game-high 39 points. The efficiency from long distance was of course one of the knockout blows that the Warriors provided, outscoring the visitors from three, 63-27.
Along with shooting the lights out is another night of effortless ball movement, with Curry and company collectively dishing out 35 assists. It’s the team’s 32nd 30-plus assist game this season, and they are ahead of everyone in the league in dimes (31 APG).
As they prepare to once again reign over the Clippers, confidence should be at an all-time high. They have beaten their West rivals in nine of their last 10 meetings (6-4 ATS), two of which were during the season. The most recent was days ago, and it ended in a 144-98 butchering by the Warriors.
Betting on the Los Angeles Clippers (31-18)
The Clippers will be coming off a 124-114 win over the Phoenix Suns. Thanks to Blake Griffin’s all-around play of 29 points, nine rebounds, and five assists on 10-of-14 shooting, the team survived DeAndre Jordan getting ejected (flagrant 2 on Marquese Chriss) in the third quarter and Eric Bledsoe exploding for 41 points.
Obviously, beating the West’s last-placed team is not something to feel good about, but every win is a good win, and it may come as a momentum builder before facing the mighty Warriors.
As mentioned, the Clips have already lost twice to the Dubs this season. The offense could only muster 98 points on both occasions, and their defense was just as bad, if not worse. Adding up the numbers on the pair of meetings, the Clips are allowing 130.5 points and 33.5 assists per game, along with a 55-percent field goal percentage, all of which are the highest that the Clippers have surrendered against any team this season.
Griffin (21.1 PPG, 8.8 RPG, 4.6 APG) is who head coach Doc Rivers will once again eye to provide the most offense, although JJ Redick (15.6 PPG, 2.7 threes per game) and son Austin Rivers could also get a good amount of scoring opportunities. The younger Rivers is averaging 17.2 points and 4.0 assists since becoming a starter in late December.
The Clippers are 6-1 in their last seven games at home (5-2 ATS).
Writer’s Prediction
The Dubs (-9) convincingly win again, 119-105.
