Regular Season Record: 48-26
Something isn’t quite right with the Warriors, which one could easily tell from the fact that the team has won just once in five games. The Warriors had a good lead during last Friday’s road game against the Atlanta Hawks but ended up absorbing a 121-110 loss. Nevertheless, it was nice for Golden State to see Klay Thompson play like old Klay Thompson, as the sharpshooting guard dropped 37 points with nine threes in the Atlanta game. With Stephen Curry out, Thompson will be pressed to deliver another scintillating performance as well as Jordan Poole, who had 24 points against the Hawks. The last time Golden State squared off with the Grizzlies, Curry went off for 46 points, while Gary Payton II had 22 points in a 113-104 win at home in December. Thompson was still not around during either of Golden State’s two meetings with Memphis this season, so look out for him to fill the void temporarily left by Curry.
The Warriors, who have a date with the Washington Wizards Sunday, are 9-11 against the spread in their last 20 games in Memphis.
Betting on the Memphis Grizzlies (-10.5)
Regular Season Record: 52-23
Like the Warriors, the Grizzles will not have their best player on the floor this Monday, with Ja Morant still nursing a knee injury. However, Morant’s absence hasn’t been able to slow down the Grizzlies, who comes into this contest riding a four-game win streak. In their last game, the Grizzlies took down the Milwaukee Bucks at home on Saturday to the tune of a 127-102 score. Memphis is playing on another level this season, with several players capable of stepping up and showing out to mitigate the impact of a key player’s absence. Against the Bucks, the Grizzlies got 20 points from Desmont Bane and 25 off the bench from De’Anthony Melton. An elite-rebounding squad, the Grizzlies can generate plenty of shots and extra possessions just like in the January meeting between these teams when Memphis had 18 more shots than Golden State in a 116-108 home win.
The Grizzlies are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Grizzlies win, 111-106.
