NBA News & Predictions

Betting on the Golden State Warriors (49-9)

Point Spread: -14

The Sixers don’t suck as much today as they were in previous seasons but Golden State is still the overwhelming favorite to win in tonight’s contest when the Warriors look to notch their 50th win of the season.

Golden State (6-1 SU and 4-3 ATS in its last seven games) makes a trip to Philly on the heels of a 112-95 home victory over Brooklyn Saturday night. The Warriors were without Kevin Durant against the Nets, but the combination of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson was more than enough to rattle Brooklyn, which allowed Golden State go 11-for-31 from beyond the arc. Curry dropped 27 points on the Nets while Thompson relished being the rare time he was a second banana again, as he chipped in 24 points.

Durant continues to be a day-to-day case with a hand injury but with Curry and Thompson there to run the show, the Warriors have enough firepower to take down Philadelphia.

The Warriors could see plenty of easy scoring opportunities against Philadelphia, which averages 16.7 turnovers per game—second most in the NBA. On the flipside, the Warriors are second overall in points off turnovers per game (19.2) and first in fastbreak points per contest (23.5).

Betting on the Philadelphia Sixers (22-36)

Point Spread: +14

Saturday night wasn’t as much fun for the Sixers, as they got beat by Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, 110-109.

And now, the Sixers will face league-leader Golden State while missing their best player in Joel Embiid. That doesn’t sound good for the Sixers, who get 20.2 PPG and 7.8 RPG out of Embiid this season. Embiid has now missed Philadelphia’s past 13 games.

Despite missing Embiid, however, the Sixers have done better of late, going 4-2 SU in their last six outings. Furthermore, they have been one of the best ATS teams this month, going 8-3 ATS since February 1, including 7-0 ATS in the last seven.

In lieu of Embiid, the Sixers will look for Jahlil Okafor to step up. Okafor had a monster 28-point, 10-rebound effort against the Knicks and has averaged 14.2 points on 53.3 field goal percent shooting over his past three games. He’ll be helping the pair of Robert Covington and Dario Saric on offense. Covington has posted averages of 19.8 PPG and 8.4 RPG in the past five games while Saric has 19.2 PPG and 10.8 RPG during the same stretch for Sixers, who are ninth in the league with 23.5 APG.
