It was another annihilation Tuesday night for the Warriors, who bludgeoned a Kawhi Leonard-less Spurs, 136-100. The manner how the Warriors took apart San Antonio was terrifyingly surgical, making threes, scoring in the paint with ease, while playing tight defense on the Spurs, who shot just 37 percent from the field and had 19 turnovers.
Even scarier for the Spurs is Stephen Curry playing like the MVP that he was last season. Curry scored 29 points on 8-for-13 shooting with six of the Warriors 18 triples in Game 2. He is now averaging 29.0 points on 51 percent shooting from the field. Kevin Durant added just 16 points while Klay Thompson only had 11 but their production weren’t needed much with the game in garbage time mode as soon as half time.
Game 3 is expected going to be more of a challenge for the Warriors, considering it’ll be played in San Antonio but having said that, Golden State is playing like a team with an offense impossible to solve and lock up. The Warriors spread the floor and moved the ball so well they finished with 39 assists.
Golden State is 9-0 SU and ATS in its last nine road games.
Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (+215)
Down 2-0 in the series with both losses coming from spectacularly bitter outcomes, coach Gregg Popovich and his team need to figure things out quick if they are to dig themselves out of this hole. They could start by searching the whereabouts of LaMarcus Aldridge.
With Tony Parker and Leonard out, Aldridge was supposed to carry the offense of the Spurs. That didn’t happen. Instead, the big man played small and scored just eight points on 4-for-11 shooting with just four rebounds. The Spurs are not going to win anything in this series with Aldridge putting up embarrassing numbers like that. Leonard is questionable to play Game 3 so Aldridge will have to wake up and start delivering like an NBA star paid more than $20 million to do so.
Jonathon Simmons scored 22 points starting Game 2 in lieu of Leonard. While it was a nice production, the Spurs need to coax more from the likes of Patty Mills and Pau Gasol, who chipped in five and eight points, respectively.
The Spurs are 7-3 SU and 5-5 ATS in their last 10 at home against Golden State.
