Betting on the Houston Rockets (52-39 Regular Season)
The Rockets eliminated the Utah Jazz in five games in the first round, and that’s largely because of what James Harden was able to freely do on offense. Harden was an unstoppable force that was too much to handle even for a solid Jazz defense. In those five games, the bearded assassin averaged 27.8 points and 8.0 assists in the first round. He shot just 37.4 percent from the field, but he’s still the undoubted focal point on offense for the Rockets, which will also armed with a great 3-point shooting. They knocked down 15.4 triples per game against the Jazz on 36.5 percent accuracy. Perhaps even more important is their confidence in matching up well with the Warriors, knowing they are a much stronger, deeper, and complete team than the Los Angeles Clippers that won two more games than they were supposed to against Golden State in the first round. In the regular season, the Rockets beat Golden State three times out of four meetings, with Houston nailing 16.0 3-pointers per game.
Houston is 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last four games against Golden State.
Betting on the Golden State Warriors (57-25 Regular Season)
The Warriors had had enough of the pesky Clippers on Friday, as they finally threw Doc Rivers’ team out of the playoffs with a 129-110 win on the road. Kevin Durant wasn’t going to let LA force a Game 7, as the scoring machine erupted for 50 points on 15-for-26 shooting from the field with six rebounds and five assists. Stephen Curry, meanwhile, contributed 24 points. Klay Thompson, meanwhile, had a subpar night, having just nine points on a salty 3-for-10 shooting. The Warriors need all their guns shiny in what could be a potential shootout of a series with Houston. Golden State can rack up points in a heartbeat because of their trio of Durant, Curry, and Thompson, but also because of their offense that is very quick to capitalize on the errors of their opponents. In fact, the Warriors are second overall in the playoffs with 18.3 points off turnovers. In Game 6’s win over the Clippers, the Warriors converted LA’s 15 turnovers to 23 points. The Warriors are also second in the playoffs with 18.0 fastbreak points per game.
Golden State is 5-5 ATS in its last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Houston wins, 119-118.
