Betting on the Houston Texans (+9.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-4
It’s been a while since the Texans looked as good as they did in Week 5 against the New England Patriots at home. Even though Houston lost that game, 25-22, that was the best game so far by Davis Mills as the team’s starter. He went 21/29 for 312 passing yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Three different players scored receiving touchdowns, including Chris Moore, who took home a pass for a 67-yard score. Mills is far from being a respectable passer on an NFL level, but the confidence he got from his performance in Week 5, could help him be a steadier QB going forward, beginning with a meeting with the Colts, who just gave up over 400 passing yards last Monday to the Baltimore Ravens.
The Texans are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games against AFC teams.
Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (-9.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-4
The Colts are not going to forget their 31-25 overtime loss on the road to Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in Week 5. Indianapolis wasted a 19-point lead and Rodrigo Blankenship missed what would have been the game-winning field goal. It was a disastrous second half for the Colts, who got outscored in the final two quarters and in overtime, 22-3. However, the Ravens had the luxury of having Jackson as their quarterback. The Texans, meanwhile, have Mills, who has yet to win a single game in the NFL as a starter. Mills is also fronted by a weak offensive line that is 26th in the NFL with a 7.89 QB sacked percentage. Carson Wentz can regain his mojo in this game. Houston’s defense is 18th in the league against the pass and 26th against the run, so running back Jonathan Taylor can have a field day against the Texans as well.
The Colts are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 October games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Colts win, 27-16.
