Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (+7)
The Indianapolis Colts were sent crashing back to earth on Sunday with a deflating 30-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Colts had an excellent opportunity to record their second straight victory, but several missed chances on the offensive end denied them from posting a .500 record. Andrew Luck was the main culprit for the Colts’ loss as he turned the ball over two times, none bigger than the pick he threw in the dying seconds of the first half. He now has thrown five interceptions this season. Luck’s eight turnovers have now accounted for 38 points for the Colts’ opponents this season.
For the Colts to return to winning ways against the Packers, they will need to do a much better job on their third-down opportunities. They converted just four of their 13 third-down attempts against Kansas City on Sunday. The onus then is on Luck to improve on his passing accuracy. He completed just 19 of 35 passes against Kansas City for a measly QB rating of 19.8.
Apart from Luck, the Colts also need T.Y. Hilton to step up his game against Green Bay. He secured just one of six targets for 20 yards Sunday against Kansas City. The wide receiver didn’t look like his usual self after suffering a hamstring injury in the first quarter of that game. Hilton is sixth in the NFL in the receiving department, averaging 88.6 yards per game this season.
Indianapolis is 1-3 on the road this season.
Betting on the Green Bay Packers (-7)
What in the world is happening to the Packers? Green Bay crashed to its second defeat in the last three games with a heart-breaking 33-32 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. They simply had no answer for Matt Ryan who passed for 288 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winning score to Mohamed Sanu with just 31 seconds remaining. With the loss, the Packers are now 1.5 games behind the division-leading Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North standings.
The good news for the Packers is that they will next face the struggling Indianapolis Colts this coming weekend. The Colts are 29th in the NFL in total defense, allowing a whopping 402.5 yards per game this season. That’s music to the ears of Aaron Rodgers who put up a dazzling performance in Sunday’s loss to the Falcons. He completed 28 of 38 passes for 246 yards and four touchdowns in that game. Rodgers was also Green Bay’s leading rusher in that contest with a career-high 60 yards on six carries.
The Packers will take comfort in the fact as well that they have dominated the Colts at home of late. The Packers have won in each of their last three meetings with the Colts at Lambeau Field. The Packers have covered the spread in two of those three outings.
Green Bay is 3-1 at home this season.
