Jacksonville Jaguars vs Minnesota Vikings Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – NFL Preseason – August 18, 2018

The Minnesota Vikings must be fired up by their performance last week, as they blew out the Denver Broncos, as though Paxton Lynch and company owed them something. Will the good times this preseason continue to roll for the Vikings when they square off with the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars? Current NFL Futures at the sportsbook list the Vikings at +1,200 to win Super Bowl 53, while Jacksonville has a price of +1,800.

Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (+4.5)

Cornerback Jalen Ramsey and defensive end Dante Fowler are certainly not going to see action this Saturday against the Vikings, as the Jaguars have suspended the two for one week after “violating team rules and conduct unbecoming of a Jaguars football player, according to Jacksonville itself. On a brighter note, Jags quarterback Cody Kessler was solid in his Jags debut, as he completed 14 of 17 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown without an interception, albeit in a 24-20 loss at home to the New Orleans Saints. Kessler has a strong chance to lock up the backup job in Jacksonville, especially if produces yet another solid performance against Minnesota.

The Jaguars are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 preseason games away from home.

Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (-4.5)

Minnesota poured it on offensively in its preseason opener, scoring a 42-28 win over the Denver Broncos on the road to get to 1-0.  All that while witnessing the debut for the team of quarterback Kirk Cousins. Cousins played briefly but was a perfect 4-of-4 in his attempts for 42 yards and a touchdown. The backfield, meanwhile, compiled 147 yards with Roc Thomas fortifying his case to be the team’s No. 3 running back by rushing for 29 yards on eight carries doing lethal damage in the passing game, catching all three targets for 102 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. Although Jacksonville is known for its defense, it allowed 135 rushing yards to the Saints last week, so Thomas and company will have to try drilling through that seemingly porous Jags defense.

The Viking are 8-2 SU and 6-4 ATS in their last 10 preseason games at home.

Writer’s Prediction

Minnesota wins, 31-24.
