Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (3-0)
The Chiefs are still undefeated through three weeks of the 2019 NFL season. That’s after they held off Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in a 33-28 win at home last Sunday. Perhaps the biggest takeaways from the victory for the Chiefs is that they seem to have enough depth to sustain their high-octane offense despite the injuries. Without running back Damien Williams, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and left tackle Eric Fisher due to injuries, the Chiefs managed to put up more than 30 points with other players stepping up. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes proves he can be effective regardless of the weapons around him, as he tossed for 374 passing yards and three touchdowns with zero picks thrown on 27 of 37 completions. Darrell Williams and LeSean McCoy combined for 116 rushing yards, while Mecole Hardman led the team with 97 receiving yards and touchdown on two receptions and five targets. Having hurdled Baltimore’s defense, Mahomes and company should be able to have success on offense, especially if the injured stars manage to return for Week 4.
The Chiefs are 3-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last three games overall.
Betting on the Detroit Lions (2-0-1)
The Lions are building a case for themselves as a force to reckon with not only in the NFC North but in the entire conference as well. After a tie with the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1, the Lions defeated the Los Angeles Chargers, 13-10, at home and the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-24, on the road. Against the Eagles, Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford had 201 passing yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 18 of 32 completions, while wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. paced his team with 101 receiving yards on six receptions. The Lions are going to need more firepower to keep in step with the Chiefs’ offense. That also means Kenny Golladay will have to put up a much better performance in Week 4 after catching just two of eight targets for a measly 17 receiving yards in the Eagles game. Defensively, the Lions’ pass rush will be key in containing Mahomes. Detroit, which sacked Eagles QB Carson Wentz three times, has nine sacks on the season.
The under is 6-0 in the Lions’ last six home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs win, 31-20.
