Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks (odds)
Record: 10-4 Overall / 4-3 Conference
The Jayhawks are still stuck at 10 wins this season after becoming the latest victims of the Baylor Bears. The Jayhawks, who lost in Waco last Monday, are now 0-2 straight up in their last two games, as they also lost to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater on Jan. 12. Kansas shot the ball well against the Bears, making 48.1 percent of their shots and hitting 10 of their 19 3-point attempts. It’s just that we were not able to keep Baylor from doing better offensively. Kansas hopes to carry that offense into the rematch with the Sooners, whom they beat at home on Jan. 9, 63-59. Kansas went 23 of 47 (48.9%) from the field in that game and just 6 of 20 from deep. Kansas is 17th in Division I basketball with an adjusted offensive rating of 113.5.
Kansas, which is averaging 74.8 points per game, is 2-1 against the spread in its last three games against Oklahoma.
Betting on the Oklahoma Sooners (odds)
Record: 8-4 Overall / 4-3 Conference
Oklahoma is on a two-game win streak. The Sooners have defeated the TCU Horned Frogs (82-46) and the Kansas State Wildcats (76-50) both in Norman in their last two games, though not many expected them to get upset by any of those teams that are unlikely to make it to the Big Dance. Nevertheless, those wins give the Sooners a nice momentum heading into a rematch against the revenge-seeking Jayhawks. The Sooners are 3-2-1 against the spread in their last five games away from Norman, with the total hitting the over in three of those contests. They covered the spread as seven-point road underdogs in the first meeting with Kansas this season. Oklahoma has one of the best players in the Big 12 in Austin Reaves, who is fifth in the conference with 15.2 points per game and third with 5.3 assists per contest. He had 20 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in 38 minutes against Kansas.
Oklahoma is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Kansas wins, 72-70.
