Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (1-2 Preseason Record)
The Bolts have hard their worst game of the preseason so far when they took a 36-7 loss at the hands o the New Orleans Saints last week. Despite the forgettable overall performance, Los Angeles’ backfield, even in the absence of running back Melvin Gordon, compiled a total of 104 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Chargers are actually running the ball well in the preseason. They are fifth in the league this August with 125.7 rushing yards per game to go with three rushing scores. The offensive line, however, didn’t do so well in pass protection, as it did in the run blocking, with Chargers quarterbacks getting sacked four times for a loss of 32 yards.
The Chargers are 4-6 ATS in their 10 preseason games, dating back to 2013, when the team was still stationed in San Diego.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (1-2 Preseason Record)
Like the Chargers, San Francisco struggled mightily on offense, particularly when it came to finishing drives in its 23-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts last week. The team’s starting offense went 0-for-3 on red zone opportunities. It didn’t help the team that they committed 10 penalties that set them back for 98 yards. It’s a sign of a team still trying to figure out a way to be on the same page, but that’s exactly why they’re playing in the preseason – to fix what’s needed to be repaired. Having said all of that, it San Francisco is tops in the preseason with 411.0 total yards per game. The 49ers also signed running back Ja’Quan Gardner, who is expected to provide depth in the preseason finale behind the likes of Alfred Morris and Jeff Wilson.
San Francisco is 5-3 SU and only 1-4 ATS in their last four preseason games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
