Betting on the Los Angeles Clippers (35-21)
Looking to keep their win streak alive are the Los Angeles Clippers, who strung together four-consecutive wins heading into the All-Star break that was capped off with a sound 99-84 victory over the Atlanta Hawks last Wednesday.
Without injured point guard Chris Paul (left thumb), the Clippers have shown great mettle sans their floor general. Blake Griffin, who was named the Western Conference’s Player of the Week prior to the All-Star weekend, nearly finished with a double-double that Wednesday (17 points, nine assists) after averaging 26 points, 10 rebounds and 6.3 assists in the three games prior to the game against the Hawks.
Los Angeles has even recently shown that it can adapt to any of their opponents’ tempos, as they won their last couple of contests by double-digits while limiting both Atlanta and the Utah Jazz to less than 84 points apiece.
However, having just Griffin and no Paul yet in the starting lineup will certainly hurt the Clippers’ chances of finally getting one over Golden State this Thursday. And even though they have a decent 4-2 record on the road over their last six (5-1 ATS), there’s really nothing worse than another trip back to rowdy Oracle Arena against the NBA’s best offense.
Betting on the Golden State Warriors (47-9)
Following the shocking loss to the Nuggets in Denver, the Golden State Warriors made sure that they entered the midseason break on a high, and they did so by handily defeating the Sacramento Kings last Wednesday, 109-86.
It was Klay Thompson’s turn to deliver the offensive punch, as he finished with a team-high 35 points against the Kings. And as expected, Kevin Durant had another fantastic showing with 21 points, seven boards and seven assists.
With Wednesday’s victory, the Warriors officially became the first NBA team to finish with the best regular-season record in the league entering the All-Star break for three-consecutive seasons. They also managed to prevent losing back-to-back regular-season games yet again; a 142-game streak that began way back in April of 2015.
Right now, there’s no reason to doubt that Golden State won’t be able to make quick work of the visiting Clippers all over again. The team has won nine-straight contests against the Clips (6-3 ATS), and the Dubs have not lost in seven-straight meetings at Oracle Arena against their Pacific Division rivals dating back to the 2014 playoffs.
