Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (41-25)
Undefeated in two starts this June, Rich Hill (3-2, 3.77 ERA) like to keep his record this month blemish-free when he takes on the Indians later tonight. Hill is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts this June.
Hill got a W in his last start, taming the Reds for five innings, wherein he allowed just one run on two hits in a 7-2 home victory on June 9. Hill hasn’t pitched more than five innings in a game in seven starts this season, which could be partially attributed to his high ratio of walks. He is third in the majors among pitchers with at least 30 innings logged on the mound in terms of walks issued per nine innings.
In any case, the Dodgers have the elite bullpen to support Hill. The Dodgers’ bullpen has the second lowest ERA in the MLB.
In addition, Hill could benefit from the Dodgers’ fine form at the plate lately. The Dodgers are on a six-game win streak, averaging 6.0 runs during that stretch.
Betting on the Cleveland Indians (31-31)
Cleveland faithful has learned to lower their expectations when Josh Tomlin is on the mound. Tomlin has just been bad this season, currently walking around with a 3-8 record and a 5.73 ERA in 12 starts.
That being said, he’s shown improvement, having lowered his ERA to sub 6.00 after hitting 8.87 last April. Tomlin was shell-shocked in his last start, getting tagged with three earned runs on nine hits in just 2.2 innings of a 5-3 home loss to the White Sox on June 10.
Cleveland can’t pin its hopes on Tomlin. Not with that kind of numbers from the pitcher. The Indians’ offense has to save the day for the team.
Up against a lefty in Rich Hill, the Indians will look for the likes of Francisco Lindor and Michael Brantley to generate runs. Lindor is batting .286 (26-for-91) with five homers against lefties this season. Brantley, on the other hand, is .273 (21-for-77) with a pair of doubles and a home run.
Writer’s Prediction
