Betting on the Los Angeles Lakers (26-55)
It was a fun night at Staples Center Thursday, as the Lakers cruised to a 108-96 win over the New Orleans Pelicans for their fifth consecutive W (SU and ATS), which should feel good for the young team’s confidence despite being very untimely. Six Laker reached double figures, including Metta World Peace, who chipped in a season-high 18 points, four steals, and four treys.
The Lakers lost in two of their three meetings with the Warriors this season. After a surprising 20-point blow out victory in their first meeting, the Dubs returned fire in the next two encounters, one of which was a 149-106 laugher, where L.A.’s bottom-ranked defense couldn’t be any more apparent. Their D allowed that boatload of points by letting Stephen Curry and company shoot 61 percent from the field, splash 19 threes, and dish out 47 assists.
Such thumping may not happen tomorrow since there’s a high possibility that it’ll be the Lakers’ starters versus the Warriors’ second-stringers.
The Lake Show average 102.7 points on 42.1 percent shooting in the season series with Golden State.
Betting on the Golden State Warriors (66-15)
The Warriors had their 14-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night by the Utah Jazz, 105-99. It was only their sixth time scoring below 100 points this season.
The defeat, obviously, doesn’t mean much for the Dubs, as they have already clinched the best record in the league for the third straight year. Also, they are again enjoying the services of Kevin Durant (knee), whose return is just in time for the postseason.
Durant’s main scoring partners – Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson – may rest the team’s regular season finale, so if he decides to play in order to regain more rhythm, we could see him light up the scoreboard. KD is putting up 25 points, 4.9 assists, and career-highs 8.3 rebounds and 53.5 percent field goal shooting on the year. Should he opt to rest, look for Andre Iguodala, Matt Barnes, Shaun Livingston, Zaza Pachulia, or rookie Patrick McCaw to have a nice stat line.
As mentioned, Golden State is 2-1 against the Lakers this season. They score 118.3 per game in the series, along with shooting 52.9 percent from the field and distributing the ball for a whopping 34.7 dimes.
The Warriors are 18-2 in their last 20 games at home (11-6-3 ATS).
Writer’s Prediction
The Warriors (-17) win, but barely fail in covering the spread.
