Betting on the Los Angeles Lakers (21-54)
This past Thursday, the Lakers tallied another L to the countless amount of routs they have received in the last couple of years. They fell to the Timberwolves, 119-104, with pass-first point guard Ricky Rubio lighting them up for 33 points on 60 percent shooting.
The defeat further worsened the team’s futility after a rather competitive start, as they are now 11-44 since December began.
We can probably expect them to keep taking defeats – for the lottery chances, obviously. However, it’s no secret that the Lake Show has been consistently horrific, as evidenced to placing in the bottom three in offensive and defensive efficiency rankings. Scoring is their strong suit, but they only net 104.7 PPG, which is just 17th in the league.
As for watching out who may produce big, it’s guards D’Angelo Russell, who’s averaging 22.8 points and 5.7 assists in his last six, and Jordan Clarkson, who’s benefiting well from Nick Young getting virtually “shut down,” chipping in 18.6 points and 4.4 assists since being inserted into the starting lineup in mid March.
The Lakers are 3-17 in their last 20 games (5-14-1 ATS). They are also down in their season series with the Clippers, 2-1.
Betting on the Los Angeles Clippers (46-31)
The Clippers are trying hard to redeem themselves from that embarrassing loss to the Kings last Sunday (as they should). They are doing well, so far, and have since racked up two straight wins while averaging 128.5 points on 55.8 percent shooting.
Against the Lakers, they should be in a comfortable position to continue the wins and offensive onslaught. They lead the season series, 2-1, with the most recent encounter happening just 10 days ago. In there, the Clipps cruised to a 133-109 victory, and had eight guys score in double figures.
DeAndre Jordan is posting 14.3 points and 14.0 rebounds in three contests with the Lakers this season. He’s the only member of the Clippers’ big three to play in all of this year’s meetings, but Chris Paul (17.8 PPG, 9.2 APG) and Blake Griffin (21.4 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 5.0 APG) should still be expected to produce.
The Clipps are 11-9 in their last 20 games (7-13 ATS)
Writer’s Prediction
The Clippers win, 120-105.
