Betting on the Louisville Cardinals (14-3 Overall / 5-1 Conference)
The Cardinals have built quite a wave of momentum heading into a marquee meeting with Duke. The Cardinals are on a three-game win streak after outlasting the Pittsburgh Panthers on the road last Tuesday, 73-68, via overtime. The Cardinals relied on their outside shooting to carry them to the victory. They shot 12 for 25 from deep for a fantastic 48.0 percent 3-point shooting. That’s a highly unsustainable percentage, but while that’s likely to regress, Louisville has proven that it is one of the bests 3-point shooting teams not only in the ACC but in the nation as well. Louisville is making 38.2 percent of its shots from behind the arc this season, good for 14th overall. Jordan Nwora, the Cardinals’ best player, is leading the team with 20.4 points per game and a sweet 44.0 shooting from the 3-point region.
The over is 4-1 in Louisville’s last five road games.
Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (15-2 Overall / 5-1 Conference)
Duke is no longer undefeated in conference play after getting subdued by the Clemson Tigers in South Carolina on Tuesday, 79-72. Duke was led by Vernon Cary Jr., who had 20 points and seven rebounds, while Trey Jones and Cassius Stanley combined for 31 points. The Blue Devils were fine on offense overall despite Matthew Hurt scoring only two points, as the team shot 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from deep. But Duke was not so great defensively, allowing Clemson to shoot 56.6 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from behind the arc. They were also outrebounded by Clemson, 35-27. At least the problems that arose for Duke in the loss were things that can be fixed like taking care of the ball better after turning it over 15 times. However, the free-throw woes continue for Duke, which is only making 66.5 percent of their shots from the foul line this season.
The Blue Devils are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
Duke wins, 73-67.
