Betting on Manchester City (+230)

Manchester City got a rude awakening in their 2017 preseason debut, losing 2-0 to arch-rivals Manchester United in their first meeting outside English shores. The Citizens looked rusty against the Red Devils as they simply had no answer for the in-form Romelu Lukaku. Quite concerning for City fans is the performance of new goalkeeper Ederson who looked nervy in his first start for the blue half of Manchester. Manager Pep Guardiola can ill afford another flop between the posts for City who are employing their third No. 1 keeper in 12 months.

It’s still early days, though, so no need to worry yet for the City faithful. In fact, the Citizens are still bolstering their ranks with Danilo and Benjamin Mendy the latest to join the English powerhouse. They have now taken their summer spending to more than £200m with this pair of signings and increased their total outlay in the transfer market since Guardiola took charge 13 months ago to a whopping £385m. Danilo and Mendy are not expected, however, to make their debuts against Real Madrid this coming Wednesday.

Expected to feature in this grand matchup, though, is Phil Foden. The youngster was one of the few bright spots for City in their loss to United. The 17-year-old looked positively unfazed by the surroundings as he oozed class on the ball against the Red Devils. Foden has that deadly combination of pace and control and Guardiola will be eager to see what he can do against the reigning European champions.

Betting on Real Madrid (-107)

Just like City, Real Madrid had their 2017 preseason debut spoiled by United on Sunday. The Galacticos lost, 2-1, to the Red Devils in a farcical penalty shootout. Manager Zinedine Zidane can take comfort in the fact, however, that his side looked sharp in this contest despite their lack of match practice. Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema looked menacing up front for the Galacticos while Luka Modric once again was majestic in pulling the strings from midfield.

Zidane also saw positive contributions from a number of young players, including new signing Theo Hernandez, who earned Real a penalty against United. Expect these youngsters to feature once again this coming Wednesday against Manchester City. The Galacticos will be licking their chops at the prospect of facing a City defense that remains a work in progress for Pep Guardiola. They will need to fire away and test new signing Ederson who looked shaky in front of goal in his debut for City against United.
