Betting on the Marist Red Foxes

Coming off two straight seven-win seasons, the Marist Red Foxes are looking for some improvement. With perennial powerhouse Duke as the first challenge in their quest, it sure doesn’t look good.

Expect the Red Foxes to once again have guards Khallid Hart and Brian Parker as the number one source of offense. Hart led the team last year in points (20.3), field goals (5.6), and threes per game (2.6), as well picking opponents’ pockets (1.5 steals per game). Parker, meanwhile, was second in scoring (15.9 ppg) and first in field goal percentage (51.4 percent).

Marist will have a tough time containing Duke’s offensive attack. It can come from anywhere and throughout the game, they’ll have a hard time guessing which area they can be hit – Allen and Tatum can play inside and out, Kennard is a lights out shooter, and Amile Jefferson can operate on the post really well.

Maris has lost 11 straight road games (6-5 ATS).

Betting on the Duke Blue Devils

As expected by many, Duke is the number one-ranked college basketball team heading into the season. The pool of talent they have is once again enormous, and head coach Mike Krzyzewski’s tutelage just makes it even scarier.

Entering the next game, though, the team will have to deal with a couple of injuries, as highly-touted freshmen Marques Bolden (leg), Jayson Tatum (foot), and Harry Giles (knee), are all nursing injuries – Bolden and Giles are expected to miss a couple of games.

Despite those absences, don’t expect Duke to have trouble edging Marist. Saturday is basically a tune up game.Tatum is likely to play, and he’ll be led by Grayson Allen, Luke Kennard, and Amile Jefferson – those four alone could probably beat Marist’s starting five. Allen (21.6 ppg) and Kennard (11.8 ppg) are two of the team’ top three scorers from last year.

Look for the Blue Devils to also continue displaying their great outside shooting. They were 15th in threes made (328) and 25th in three-point field goal percentage (38.5 percent) last season.

Duke is 8-2 SU (3-7 ATS) in its last 10 games at home.
