Undefeated welterweight king Maurice Hooker is coming back to his home state of Texas as a champion for the first time, and he wants nothing more than to put up a show in front of his fellow Texas natives against Ramirez. Hooker last fought last March, defeating Mikkel LesPierre in Verona via unanimous decision for his second title defense. The first one was back in November of 2018, when he took down Alex Saucedo via a knockout in Oklahoma City. Hooker won the vacant WBO super lightweight title in impressive fashion, scoring a split decision over Terry Flanagan in his opponent’s home country in Manchester. Hooker is an experienced fighter. He is three years older than Ramirez, but has fought in numerous title fights on different levels. It’s also worth noting that Hooker is learning a lot from sparring with world-class fighters Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. Hooker said he’s held his own against those elite boxers during sparring sessions, even going as far as to say that “it’s better than some of the fights they had,” per Sporting News.
Betting on Jose Ramirez

Ramirez is from California, but having his next fight in Dallas doesn’t seem to be an issue for him. In an interview with Bad Left Hook, Robert Garcia, Ramirez’s trainer, said that “Texas is our second home, you know. We love fighting in Texas. Dallas, you know, we’ve had great fights here in Dallas and we have fighters from Dallas that train with us.” Like Hooker, Ramirez got his current title by emerging victorious in a vacant championship bout. That was when Ramirez took down Amir Imam at the Madison Square Garden in New York back in March of 2018. Ramirez has yet to lose a fight. He hasn’t drawn thus far either. Ramirez is a known Energizer bunny inside the ring, always being the aggressor and constantly pushing the pace. He has to bring the fight to Hooker and make him feel his power, though, most of his stoppages were a result of opponents not being able to take any more combinations than of a single punch. Ramirez has 16 knockout victories, a higher knockout win percentage than Hooker. That said, Ramirez has to be wary still of Hooker’s power, as the latter also packs a punch.
Writer’s Prediction
Hooker wins via late stoppage.
