Betting on the Miami Hurricanes (20-9, 10-7 ACC)
The Hurricanes will be returning from a 66-61 defeat to Virginia Tech. It snapped a four-game winning streak and also featured quite the struggle, as the ‘Canes top three scorers – Davon Reed, Ja’Quan Newton, and Bruce Brown – only shot a combined 7-for-23 from the floor.
The team last met Florida State just over a month ago, where they started off strong and went to the break with a three-point lead, but then went on to unravel and lose, 75-57. They were outscored by 21 points in the second half and got held to a season-low and almost unbelievable five assists.
With the ‘Canes not likely to qualify for the NCAA tournament, there’s a chance that they might coast in this game, and even if they don’t, it’s hard to imagine them competitively surviving with a tepid offense. They are in the ACC’s bottom three in points (67.3 PPG), assists (12.1 APG), and shooting (44.7 percent).
The U is 4-6 on the road this season (5-5 ATS).
Betting on the Florida State Seminoles (23-7, 11-6 ACC)
Tuesday night, the Seminoles fell short of sweeping the season series with Duke for the first time in history. They bowed to the ACC powerhouse, 75-70, with Dwyane Bacon and Xavier Rathan-Mayes being the only players on their team to reach double figures. The rest shot a dreadful 14-for-43 (32.5 percent).
Jonathan Isaac, who’s projected to be a top five pick for next season’s NBA draft, only had eight points and eight rebounds.
Look for the big man to be on redemption mode for the upcoming game, and he should be successful in doing so. The freshman was all over the floor in their previous victory over the ‘Canes, filling the stat sheet with 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block. He guided Florida State’s second-half resurgence, wherein they held Miami scoreless for over six minutes. The drought included five forced turnovers that resulted in 13 consecutive points, and it allowed them to pull away late.
Led by Bacon, Isaac, and Rathan-Mayes’s offense and defense, the ‘Noles are top two in the ACC in points (80.2 PPG), rebounds, steals, and blocks.
The Seminoles are 18-1 at home this season (13-6 ATS).
