Miami Hurricanes vs. Florida State Seminoles – NCAA Football Preview

For the first time since 2003, bitter rivals Miami and Florida State will meet with both clutching to an undefeated record.

The Hurricanes are coming off two razor-thin wins. That’s the polar opposite of what the Seminoles have recently accomplished, outscoring their opponents 163-31 in their last three outings.

Clean records or not, this match-up figures to be one of the most interesting games of the college football schedule.

Miami’s clean record was nearly stained last week against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons if not for running back Duke Johnson’s last minute heroics. Johnson, the Canes top rusher with 823 yards, rushed for a one-yard touchdown late in the game to put Miami on top, 23-21.

It was the second straight close win for Miami, who barely escaped the Tar Heels on October 17. In that game, The Hurricanes were behind, 13-20, entering the final quarter, but were rescued by running back Dallas Crawford’s fourth quarter exploits as he ran for two TDs in that quarter.

Offense has been solid for the Hurricanes, driven by senior QB Stephen Morris and receiver Allen Hurns. Hurns has shown tremendous skills this season, catching 28 passes for 506 yards and two touchdowns.

The Hurricanes square off with bitter rivals Florida State in Tallahassee, where they have been successful covering the spread, going 8-1 in their last nine games there.

Betting on the Florida State Seminoles:

Jameis Winston, Florida State Seminoles, NCAA Football

If Miami has had trouble eking out wins in their previous games, the Seminoles meanwhile have been destroying teams with ease.

Florida State has been putting on a show throughout the season, and their lead has been redshirt phenom, QB Jameis Winston. Against North Carolina State, Winston threw three Touchdown passes right on the opening quarter as the Seminoles embarrassed their visitors by opening the floodgates early, drowning the Wolfpack with 35 unanswered points.

Winston finished the game completing 16-of-26 passes, contributing to his FBS second-best passer efficiency of 207.0.

The Noles have never scored less than 41 points in each of their seven games this season, reaching as high as 63 points in their trampling of Maryland (63-0) last October 5. The school is third in the FBS in points per game with 52.6, but as great as the offense has been, the defense has been just as spectacular. Florida State holds opponents down to just 13.0 points a game, good for 4th in the rankings.

Florida State is 9-1 SU in their last 10 home games. Furthermore, they’re 4-1 ATS in their last five games at Doak Campbell Stadium.
