Betting on the Montana Grizzlies (odds)

Record: 0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

Montana played in just two games back in spring of this year, and won both in a convincing fashion. The Grizzlies took down Central Washington (59-3) then blasted the Portland State  Vikings (48-7) in their second and last game of that season. If anything, the Grizzlies have that to fuel their momentum heading into a tough matchup against Washington on the road. Cam Humphrey returns as the starting quarterback for Montana, so at least there’s continuity in the most important position. Make no mistake about the Grizzlies. They have talent, albeit no on the level that would be good enough to make them a serious threat to Washington. But if we’re talking about covering the spread, it’s wise not to sleep on Montana, which has five preseason All-Conference teams members including wideout Sammy Akem, and linebacker Jace Lewis.

Betting on the Washington Huskies (odds)

Record: 0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

The Huskies are hoping for increased normalcy this time around after dealing with a complicated schedule last season. They went 3-1 overall in 2020 but were not able to post a win against a ranked opponent while also unable to play outside of the conference. Leading the charge for Washington’s offense is quarterback Dyland Morris, who should benefit from a more traditional offseason preparation. He had 897 passing yards and four touchdowns with three interceptions last season. Morris and the Huskies’ offense aren’t likely to have a hard time playing against Montana’s defense that lacks elite talent on this level. Speaking of elite defensive talents, the Huskies have cornerback Trent McDuffie, who should be an NFL player down the road. The Huskies were 10th in the nation last season with just 185.0 passing yards allowed per game.

Writer’s Prediction

Washington wins, 44-3.
