Betting on the New England Patriots (-5.5)
Regular Season Record: 6-4
The Patriots keep on winning. Rookie quarterback Mac Jones is no Tom Brady, but he’s getting more and more stable under center for New England, which got another solid performance from the former Alabama Crimson Tide star in Week 10’s demolition job of a 45-7 win at home over the Cleveland Browns. Jones passed for 198 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions on 19/23 completions. He was not flashy but he got the job done, and he can look forward to doing the same to the Falcons’ defense in Week 11. Atlanta’s pass defense barely barks and doesn’t bite. The Falcons entered Week 10 just 29th in the NFL in interception rate and last in sack rate. Meanwhile, New England is top 10 in both scoring offense and pass completion percentage.
The Patriots are 6-0 against the spread in their last six games overall.
Betting on the Atlanta Falcons (+5.5)
Regular Season Record: 4-5
Atlanta failed once again in its attempt to win consecutive games this season. After defeating the New Orleans Saints on the road in Week 9, the Falcons suffered an embarrassing 43-3 loss in Arlington to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10. The Falcons were way off as well in covering the spread, and they have now covered the spread in three of their last five games overall. Matt Ryan had an absolutely hard time moving the chains against the Cowboys’ defense, going 9/21 for 117 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions. But Atlanta’s been quite of an unpredictable team. It can look hilariously bad one time and then beat a decent team like the Saints in another. Ryan can still put up a surprising performance — even against a stout defense like that of New England’s. Nevertheless, Atlanta needs to clean up on its turnovers after committing multiple errors against the Cowboys.
The Falcons are 4-4 against the spread in their last eight home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Patriots win, 27-21.
