Super Bowl XLIX is finally here and with it, all the eagerly anticipated fun prop bets. Last year’s edition had such gems as Peyton Manning’s now famous “Omaha” audible and whether or not a Red Hot Chili Pepper would perform topless in the snowy halftime show.
This season’s batch is sure to be just as entertaining, from Marshawn Lynch facing a possible fine to Katy Perry’s choice of outfit and many more. Find the full list of Top Bet’s silly Super Bowl props here.
To help get you set to spread your betting out by value, we’ll use a hypothetical $100 betting budget and weigh each bet with the amount of “cash” out of that initial capital we’d lay on each line. Will Marshawn Lynch be fined by NFL for any incident on Super Bowl XLIX Media Day?
Line: Yes (+350), No (-500)
[sc:NFL240banner ]The NFL just loves (fining) Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch. He was fined $50,000 for violating the NFL Media Policy after the Seahawks’ November 16 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, adding to the previous $50,000 taken from him following violations of the media policy for the 2013 season.
If the total of $100,000 for the regular season weren’t enough, the league also fined Lynch $25,000 for his crotch grab in the NFC Championship Game.
The league was also willing to eject Lynch from the championship game against the Packers if he wore his gold-plated shoes. The NFL will be on high-alert with Lynch’s actions, especially after the star running back expressed his discontent with the league in this tweet. If Lynch does the littlest thing to tick the NFL off, then a hefty fine should follow.
Writer’s prediction: Splash a small $20 bet that Lynch gets fined (+350) in the lead up to Super Bowl XLIX.
Time It Takes Idina Menzel To Sing National Anthem
Line: Total 122.5
Idina Menzel is set to dazzle everyone with her amazing voice as she opens Super Bowl XLIX with the Star Spangled Banner. While singing the national anthem doesn’t take too much time to finish, the gravity of the Super Bowl may just lead Menzel to take her time and dramatize the whole song.
Menzel also sang the national anthem at the 2014 MLB All-Star Game. She finished the whole anthem in just under two minutes. The star also has some experience with New England, performing the Star Spangled Banner at a Patriots game on January 29, 2008. By our count, that’s just about 95 seconds worth of singing.
Writer’s prediction: There’s some sure money to be made that Menzel checks out at Under 122.5. Lay $30 on that line and bank $26.08.
What will Katy Perry be wearing during her first song performance for Super Bowl XLIX halftime?
Line: Dress/Skirt (-150), Pants/Shorts/Any Other (+120)
Katy Perry loves dresses. Considering that Super Bowl XLIX will be played at Arizona (where the temperature is much warmer), Perry may decide to wear something like this, only with a bit more of both teams’ colors:
Writer’s prediction: Katy Perry is too girly not to wear a dress. Lay $25 on -150 to cash in $16.66.
What Color will the Gatorade (or Liquid) be that is dumped on the Head Coach of the Winning Team?
Line: See all eight options here.
The Patriots and the Seahawks have two contrasting styles of play. New England loves to utilize Tom Brady’s arm to gain significant yardage through the air. Seattle loves to grind out the yards through some hard-earned runs through Lynch and the scrambling abilities of Russell Wilson.
That’s not their only differences though. They also differ in their preference in game-time beverages. The Seahawks love orange Gatorade (+175), which they dumped on Pete Carroll following their Super Bowl XLVIII win over the Denver Broncos. Meanwhile, the Patriots prefer water/clear liquid (+400), which they were shown dumping on Bill Belichick.
Writer’s prediction: We’re sticking with our Super Bowl XLIX prediction. Put $15 on Clear/Water to be dumped on Patriots coach Bill Belichick and pocket $60.
Who will the Super Bowl MVP of the Game Thank First?
Line: See all six options here.
Four of the past five Super Bowl MVPs have been quarterbacks. So let’s say Russell Wilson wins the award should the Seahawks win, and Tom Brady is crowned Super Bowl MVP should the Patriots lift their fourth Lombardi Trophy.
If it’s Wilson, then it’s a no-brainer he’ll give all glory, praise and thanks to God (+300). If Brady wins the trophy, then he probably thanks the New England fans (+700) for sticking around despite the criticism he received from the media around Deflategate. He’s sure to mention all the hardships and struggles on the way to winning the title.
Writer’s prediction: We’ll stick with our previous prediction and go with the Patriots. Therefore, lay $10 on the Fans/City to win $70.
