Betting on the New Jersey Devils (+175)
The Devils are gaining steam following consecutive wins over Calgary (2-1) and Vancouver (2-1 OT), respectively. They will look to sustain their momentum later tonight, when they visit Minnesota. The Devils are 3-3 in their last six games there.
New Jersey’s defense came up big in the last two games with Keith Kinkaid and Cory Schneider doing exceptional jobs between the pipes. Kinkaid stopped 31 of 32 shots faced against the Flames, while Schneider rejected 21 of 22 shots by the Canucks.
Schneider was in front of the goal when the Devils defeated Minnesota on Oct. 22 in overtime, 2-1, allowing just a goal on 29 shots from the Wild. Regardless of which goalie the Devils play, he is going to be pressed to step up his play considering the matchup with Devan Dubnyk, arguably the best goalie in the game today.
Taylor Hall, meanwhile, has a point in each of his last three games, including goals against Calgary and Vancouver.
New Jersey’s penalty kill has been solid too of late, shutting down all of their opponents’ last eight power plays.
Betting on the Minnesota Wild (-210)
The Wild are on cruise control. After winning four-straight games, Minnesota kick off a four-game homestand later tonight against the Devils.
During their win streak, the Wild were able to outscore their opponents, 17-8. They were last seen on ice, taking care of the Blackhawks in a 3-2 road victory last Sunday.
With both the offense and defense humming for the Wild, now appears to be a bad time for New Jersey to cross paths with Bruce Boudreau’s squad. These Wild is much better and more cohesive than the one the Devils faced previously, with Minnesota having developed into a team that ranks fourth in goals per game and second in goals against in the league.
The Wild are loaded with scorers and the offense has been well distributed with six players having scored at least 10 goals on the season. Eric Staal leads the Wild with 15 goals to go with 24 assists.
Minnesota is 9-1 in its last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
