Betting on the New Orleans Pelicans (33-47)
Both Anthony Davis (knee) and DeMarcus Cousins (Achilles) are sidelined for this game again, which means more minutes for the Pelicans’ young talents to shine.
Rookie point guard Quinn Cook came off the bench to put in a season-high 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting in Saturday’s 123-101 loss at Golden State. Jordan Crawford also boosted the second unit there, going 8-of-16 from the floor for 21 points.
The starters, meanwhile, were led by Jrue Holiday and Alex Ajinca who combined for 27 points, along with 10 dimes from the former alone. Holiday averages 15.5 points and a team-high 7.3 assists per contest this season, including 21.0 points in two meetings with the Lakers.
New Orleans is 4-6 SU and 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games.
Betting on the Los Angeles Lakers (25-55)
Screw the tank. The Lakers are on an unprecedented (and untimely) four-game winning streak for the first time since 2013—with the latest win at the expense of a visiting Minnesota team via a game-winning three-pointer by D’Angelo Russell. He finished with 16 points on an inefficient 6-of-19 shooting.
While it’s been nice, for a handful of LA fans, to see their beloved squad come out on top, it’s the opposite for the management, which now has no choice but to rely on the ping poll balls to keep their top-3 protected pick.
Nevertheless, the recent string of victories is a testament to the Lakers’ bright future. Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, Brandon Ingram, Larry Nance Jr. and the aforementioned Russell are all gradually finding their respective games, while also learning how to play together and consistent.
The Lakers are 6-4 ATS in their past 10 games overall.
