Betting on the New Orleans Saints (-5)
Regular Season Record: 3-2
The Saints will have the fresher legs than the Seattle this weekend, as Jameis Winston and company just had a bye in Week 6. Prior to that, the Saints scored a 33-22 win over the Washington Football Team on the road. It’s been an up-and-down campaign for New Orleans, which has wins against the Green Bay Packers and the New England Patriots but losses to the likes of the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants. New Orleans doesn’t pass the ball much. In fact, the Saints are last in the league with only a 45.26 pass play percentage. With that, expect the Saints to run the ball a lot against the Seahawks’ porous rushing defense. Alvin Kamara must already be salivating over the prospect of facing Seattle’s defense that is allowing over 140 rushing yards per game.
The Saints are 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 road games versus a team with a losing record at home.
Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (+5)
Regular Season Record: 2-4
With Russell Wilson still out, the Seahawks will once again turn to Geno Smith for starting duties under center this coming Monday. Featuring Smith as the temporary QB1 hasn’t looked like a bad thing so far for the Seahawks. In his first start in years, Smith passed for 2019 yards and a touchdown on 23/32 completions in Week 6’s 23-20 road loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He led the Seahawks to four scoring drives in the second half of that game, and he could have more success in the next game. The Saints are allowing just 18.2 points per game but are only 23rd overall with 275 passing yards allowed per game. New Orleans doesn’t put much pressure on opposing quarterbacks too as evidenced by a 3.76 sack percentage — the second-lowest in the NFL. Even though the Seahawks don’t have their top running back in Chris Carson, who’s on the injured reserve list, they are likely to have Rashaad Penny back. They also still have Alex Collins, who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries against the Steelers.
The Seahawks are 13-5 against the spread in their last 18 games as an underdog.
Writer’s Prediction
The Seahawks win, 35-13.
