Betting on the New Orleans Saints (+11)
Regular Season Record: 6-7
The Saints are back up and running again. After a five-game losing skid, New Orleans made their return in the win column by taking down the New York Jets on the road in Week 14 to the tune of a 30-9 score. Beating the Jets isn’t really much of an achievement, but it’s still a good sign for New Orleans. It also gave the Saints a nice momentum going into the rematch against the Buccaneers, whom they beat in Week 8 at home, 36-27. This time, the Saints will have Taysom Hill as their quarterback. While not much of a passer, Hill will give New Orleans a dynamic rusher together with running back Alvin Kamara. Speaking of Kamara, he had 61 rushing yards and a touchdown in the first meeting with Tampa Bay. New Orleans’ defense is also looking to rattle Tom Brady again. Brady got intercepted twice and sacked three times in Week 8.
The Saints are 22-7 against the spread in their last 29 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-11)
Regular Season Record: 10-3
Since an upset loss to the Washington Football Team on the road in Week 10, the Buccaneers have put together a four-game unbeaten streak. During that stretch, they defeated the New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcons, and the Buffalo Bills. Their 33-27 overtime win over Buffalo in Week 14 at home saw Brady pass for 363 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 31/46 completions. Brady is out to take revenge on the Saints for Tampa Bay’s loss to New Orleans in Week 8. An extra motivational fuel certainly wouldn’t hurt Brady and the Bucs, who are no. 1 in the NFL with 31.5 points per game. Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, and Rob Gronkowski are all going to be headaches downfield for the Saints’ defense that will go from facing the Jets’ anemic attack to dealing with arguably the league’s best receiving corps.
The Buccaneers are 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Buccaneers win, 31-16.
