Betting on the New Orleans Saints (-2.5)

Regular Season Record: 2-2

The Saints still could not win back to back. After winning on the road against the New England Patriots in Week 3, 28-13, New Orleans seemed to have a gimme in Week 4 against the New York Giants at home, but even against that team, the Saints lost in overtime, 27-21. There are lessons learned for the Saints from that game, as they were up by 11 points with eight minutes remaining in regulation against the Giants. Jameis Winston passed for 226 yards and a touchdown on 17/23 completions in that game, but he will have to do more going forward. Washington’s porous defense offers an opportunity for Winston to air it out a lot and connect with his receivers. The Football Team are just 29th in the league against the pass.

The Saints are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games a the favorite.

Betting on the Washington Football Team (+2.5)

Regular Season Record: 2-2

Washington is far from an elite team, but you got to like how the Football Team gutted out a 34-30 win on the road in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons. Taylor Heinicke tossed three touchdowns in that game and finished with 290 passing yards on 23/33 completions, while also rushing for 43 yards on five carries. New Orleans’ defense had just made Daniel Jones look like a Tier 2 QB at least in Week 4 by allowing him to throw for over 400 yards. With Terry McLaurin as his primary target, Heinicke has one of the best weapons downfield in the NFL at his disposal against New Orleans’ inconsistent defense. McLaurin torched Atlanta for 123 receiving yards and two touchdowns on just six receptions. He can burn any defender with his speed and athleticism. Heinicke should have plenty of time than usual looking for McLaurin against the Saints, who only has six sacks to date.

Washington is 5-2 against the spread in its last seven games as an underdog.
