Betting on the New York Jets (0-2)

Things are not looking good for the Jets. They have plenty of problems going on right now, and the Patriots are coming up for them in Foxboro. The Jets picked up another loss last Monday, falling prey to the Cleveland Browns, 23-3, at home. What’s notable from that loss was that the Jets may have to rely on a new quarterback to lead them. With Sam Darnold out for weeks due to Mono, backup Trevor Siemian stepped into the plate for the Cleveland game but he failed to finish the contest after sustaining an apparent ankle injury that looked so nasty, it’s probable that he misses the meeting with the Pats. If Siemian can’t give it a go, the Jets will have to rely on Luke Falk, who was drafted in the sixth round last year. Falk had 198 passing yards on 20 of 25 completions against the Browns. Also, the problem at the QB position will only add to the load n the shoulders of running back Le’Veon Bell. The former Pittsburgh Steelers tailback struggled against the Browns’ defense on the ground, as Cleveland was able to focus on him given the anemic nature of the Jets’ attack. If the Jets are going to upset the Pats, it will have to come down to New York’s defense which already has three interceptions on the season.

The Jets are 5-4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 meetings with New England.

Betting on the New England Patriots (2-0)

If the Patriots are bored this season, that’s very much understandable because their first two opponents had barely put up resistance. After clobbering the Pittsburgh Steelers 33-3 in Week 1, the Patriots strapped dynamites around the Miami Dolphins and pushed the detonate button for a 43-0 road victory. That game was almost as easy as a bye week for the Pats, who will be handed yet another patsy opponent in the form of the Jets, a team they have regularly beaten over the past several years. The Patriots are 9-1 SU and 5-4-1 ATS in their last 10 home games against the Jets. The Miami game was more notable for being Antonio Brown’s debut in New England threads Brown had 56 receiving yards and a touchdown on four reception and eight targets. He should have a much better rapport with Tom Brady with another week of practice ahead of the meeting with the Jets. Also, the Patriots’ defense poses a huge threat for the Jets, who will not be at their best with Darnold out. The Pats’ defense is tops in the league after Week 2 with five picks and second with eight sacks.

The Patriots are 3-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last three home games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Patriots win, 35-16.
