Betting on the New York Mets (24-31)
Control has been a little bit of issue for Jacob deGrom (4-2. 3.97 ERA) this season. That has grown more apparent in his last start when he dished out five walks in a 7-1 home loss to Milwaukee on May 31. It was the third instance this year that deGrom issued at least five free passes. Overall, deGrom allowed seven runs on eight hits and struck out six Rangers in four innings.
DeGrom, nevertheless, has upped his strikeout percentage from last season, as he currently is second in the NL with 92 K’s and second in the majors in strikeouts per nine innings pitched with 12.18. DeGrom is undefeated on the road so far with a 3-0 record and a 3.89 ERA in six starts away from Citi Field.
Apart from deGrom finding control, the Mets also have to find their offense after losing at home to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, 11-1.
Wilmer Flores and Lucas Duda own two of the Mets’ best bats of late. Flores has hit 9-for-23 (.391) with two home runs in his last seven games. As for Duda, he is 8-for-28 (.286) with three homers and five RBI in the same span.
Betting on the Texas Rangers (26-31)
The Rangers need a pick-me up win after taking a beating from Houston Astros. That beating came in a form of a three-game sweep at home, punctuated by a 7-2 loss to Houston on Sunday.
Texas is in a slump right now having lost all of its past four games and 11 of the past 14. The Rangers are now 15 games behind of first place in the American League West.
Former Met Dillon Gee gets his first start of the season later tonight. Gee has appeared in just two games this season. He hasn’t allowed a run in 6.2 total innings across two games.
The Rangers have been great in interleague games this year, as they have won all of their last six games versus interleague teams and 6-1 overall.
Elvis Andrus has been a bright spot for the Rangers in the midst of their struggles. The shortstop is 13-for-25 with 10 RBI in his last six games. Adrian Beltre has been a significant help for the Rangers’ offense since returning from a lengthy absence. Beltre is 9-for-23 with five RBI’s in his past six outings.
