Betting on the New York Yankees (9-16)
The New York Yankees finally snapped their six-game losing streak with a resounding 7-0 victory against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night. CC Sabathia was simply sensational for the Yankees, allowing just six hits in seven shutout innings. The last time Sabathia had a scoreless start that lasted as many as seven innings was back on April 7, 2013.
The Yankees will look to keep the momentum going when they face the Orioles in their series finale tonight. Starting for New York in this rubber match is Masahiro Tanaka (1-0, 2.87 ERA). The right-hander provided a good outing for the Yankees in his last start on Friday, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing two runs in a no-decision against the Boston Red Sox. Tanaka has been in terrific form to begin the season as he has not allowed more than two runs in each of his first five starts. The lack of run support, however, has prevented Tanaka from improving on his 1-0 record this campaign. The good news for Tanaka is that the Yankees are showing signs that they are waking up from their offensive slumber. They have scored a total of 15 runs in their last three games. Expected to lead the Bronx Bombers tonight is the speedy Brett Gardner. He is 4-of-13 (.308) in his career against Baltimore starter Kevin Gausman with one homer and two RBIs. Gardner went 1-of-4 with one RBI last night against the Orioles.
The Yankees are 2-8 in their last 10 road games. They are pegged at +2,800 to win the World Series this year.
Betting on the Baltimore Orioles (15-11)
The Baltimore Orioles were sent crashing back to earth on Wednesday as they suffered a heavy loss to the lowly New York Yankees. The Orioles have now lost three of their last four games as they dropped down to second place in the AL East standings.
The Orioles will look to return to the win column tonight when they lock horns with the Yankees in the final game of their three-game set. Starting for Baltimore this evening is Kevin Gausman (0-1, 2.45 ERA). The right-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out three and walking one over six innings in his last start Saturday against the Chicago White Sox. Gausman has a 2.79 ERA in 11 career games (five starts) against the Bronx Bombers.
Gausman can only do so much, though. For the Orioles to grab their fourth series victory against AL East opponents this season, they need to step it up on the offensive end as well. Expected to lead the Baltimore offense tonight is Manny Machado. He is hitting 11-of-28 (.393) in his last six games with one homer and five RBIs. Machado is 3-of-11 (.273) lifetime against New York starter Masahiro Tanaka with one homer and one RBI.
The Orioles are 6-4 in their last 10 home games. They are priced at +900 to win the American League pennant.
