Pitching Edge – Boston Red Sox
Michael Pineda (6-10, 5.17 ERA) and Eduardo Rodriguez (5.93 ERA) both looked sluggish in their last starts, but the latter appears to have the better chance of bouncing back in tonight’s series finale.Rodriguez, who gets the nod in place of the injured Steven Wright, has thrown phenomenally across five career starts against the Yankees. In that stretch, he has gone 4-1 and boasts an impressive 2.01 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP and .250 opponents’ batting average.
But it’s worth noting that it’s been the total opposite for Rodriguez during home games this season. And so, cashing in on Pineda and co. might not be such a bad idea. They’ll have a pretty good chance of taking home the victory if the Boston starter does end up struggling later at Fenway Park.
Batting Edge – Boston Red Sox
Much of the Red Sox’s wins and overall success this season has been thanks to their big bats. They lead the majors in runs, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging. And currently, Mookie Betts has been stealing the show for Boston in his last 11 games, batting .391 with six doubles, three home runs and eight runs batted in during that stretch. He’s also hoping to extend his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, the Yankees rank near the bottom of the majors in batting (.249) and runs per game (4.08) this year. They did, however, pile up nine runs to capture the victory in the second game yesterday.
Writer’s Prediction: Boston, which is pegged at +1,200 to win the World Series this season, bounces back with a 5-3 win.
