Betting on the New York Yankees (48-45)
The Yankees will be coming off an ugly 6-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins, where they gave up six runs despite only allowing seven hits. It was also their 20th loss in 30 games.
Rising second-year pitcher Luis Severino, who’s scheduled to start next for the Yanks, will look to make the bleeding settle for a bit. He’s a modest 5-4 with a 3.40 ERA in 18 appearances this season, but he’ll be building from his good outing at Fenway Park last July 15th. In there, he only surrendered one run on four hits and two walks across seven innings, while also striking out six.
On offense, although Aaron Judge is currently at the worst stretch of his monsterous season (3-for-25 in the past week), plenty of the other guys have been stepping up nicely. Chase Headley, Ronald Torreyes, Didi Gregorius, and Gary Sanchez are all hitting above .290 in that span, with the latter two combining for three homers and 10 RBIs.
Betting on the Seattle Mariners (48-48)
It was a quick return to the winning column for the Seattle Mariners, who got back a win over the Houston Astros this past Wednesday, 4-1, to avenge the streak-snapping loss they had just one day prior. They are now winners in seven of their last nine.
Kyle Seager is the man of the hour for the team. He’s been on rhythm lately, with eight hits, three homers, four RBIs, and five runs in the last seven days (.364 batting average). If his main batting partners, particularly Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz, finally return to form tomorrow or the next few days, Seattle should be collecting Ws again.
The defense, meanwhile, will have the presence of “King Felix,” Felix Hernandez on the mound next. The former Cy Young awardee is a respectable 3-1 with a 3.72 ERA since coming back from a 60-day DL (shoulder). The Yanks’ current batters are 34-for-126 against him all-time (.270).
Writer’s Prediction
The Mariners (+102) take it, 4-2.
